What is your teaching philosophy?

Working with students for ten years has taught me that an educator has to meet the student at his or her level. It's my job to listen deeply - especially with regard to what the student needs to do to succeed. Together, we can then move forward to launch the student on a successful path.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Regardless of subject, the point of a first session is determining why the student needs help. Is there a test looming in the near future? Is the student struggling with material and looking for a boost? Does the student need a study companion? As we work together during that first session, I pay attention to how the student gets information. For example, if a student has reading comp issues, I will try to devise ways to present the material in an engaging and memorable fashion.
