Hey everyone!

My name is Atin and I have been tutoring for over two years privately and through classes. I enjoy the aspect of teaching what I know and helping students learn from my experiences in academics. I am a pretty social guy, and I love interacting with students and answering questions. I grew up in the north suburbs of Atlanta in Alpharetta. I have included some information about my education, experience and specialization below!

I am a sophomore at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in pursuit of a B.S. in Computer Engineering. I have taken math classes through multivariable calculus, differential equations, discrete math and linear algebra; I have also taken science courses including calculus based mechanical and electromagnetic physics, as well as general chemistry. Additionally, I have taken multiple electrical engineering and computer science classes. While at school I am also involved in the Gamma Mu chapter of the Sigma Nu fraternity where I served as the Philanthropy Chairman, the Financial Engineering Club and the Association for Computing Machinery.

I attended Alpharetta High School, and graduated with honors in 2014. While attending Alpharetta, I took 10 AP courses including U.S. Government, World History, U.S. History, English Language, Physics B, Physics C: M, Physics C: EM, Computer Science A, Calculus AB and Microeconomics. While at Alpharetta I was involved in tennis, orchestra, various service clubs and Future Business Leaders of America.

I have been tutoring for two years both privately and through a service. I have experience with test prep for the ACT, SAT and SAT II. Furthermore, I have experience with high school level chemistry, physics and mathematics (through AP Calculus AB). Other positions I have held include Undergraduate Research Intern with the Georgia Tech Mechanical Engineering Department, and General Summer Intern with Everest Technologies.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. The key succeeding in your classes is doing well in all aspects of your classes, which means your homework grade is as important as your exam grade. This will not only result in a higher grade, but a deeper understanding of the material. Furthermore, to succeed in your classes, you must practice how you play. The best way to do well on a test is to study like how you would take the test.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Get to know the student and how they work through schoolwork/test material by having them do a few problems and having a conversation with them. This will help me get a handle on how they learn and operate, which I can use in later sessions to assist them more.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By having them work through their difficulties on their own and not just tell them the answer or solution.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Remind them of the opportunities that open up to them if they succeed in school. Give them advice from my experience because I've been through the same situations.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Go back to the basic concepts and see where they are struggling. Then show them examples through videos or my own work explaining the problem.
