I was originally introduced to the idea of tutoring at a young age when I helped my sister with her high school English homework. Being the youngest in a foreign family, I was able to pick up on the nuances of the English language faster than the rest of my family could. With that experience, I realized the benefit I could have on others by simply sharing my understanding on a subject in a way that they could understand. As a result of this experience early on, my philosophy as a tutor is that each individual has their own way of learning and it is my job to teach them in that way. No matter how much I understand the material I am trying to teach, if I am not engaging the other person in a way they can learn most effectively, I am not doing my job.
As a student myself I enjoy learning new material and have a wide breath of subjects I can tutor. As a result, I have sought out opportunities to help others better understand any subject they may struggle with. I have even studied subjects I dont particularly have an interest in just to tutor others. For example, I have taken the time to learn calculus and spent a lot of time with computer science, even though neither are directly related to my desired career path. However, my personal favorite subjects to tutor are those that align with the social sciences, such as psychology, sociology, and economics. I enjoy fields that study the intricacies of humans from a theoretical perspective that can still be tested.
Im currently a junior at the University of Missouri, where Im following up my Associates of Arts by studying for my Bachelors of Arts in Political Science, along with getting a Minor in Biological Science. When Im not in class or working, I enjoy spending my leisure time by reading interesting literature, going out and socializing with friends, bodybuilding, and playing my guitar.
