What is your teaching philosophy?
To teach is to touch lives!
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Ice-breakers and learning through play.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Through repetition and teach backs.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Positive reinforcement and encouragement.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Take the lesson to where the student understands it, and begin to rebuild towards the new skill.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Repetition and encourage reading each night, aside from the tutoring sessions. Get the family involved with asking questions about stories that the student is reading.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Being patient and approachable.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
By rewarding small victories.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Have the student teach the material back to me.
