I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I have had the privilege of tutoring math at Chicago City Colleges over the past 4 years. Throughout my time in this position I have had the opportunity to cover many different areas of mathematical thought and application. If there is one thing that I have noticed, it's that everyone has their own style of learning. Mathematics can invoke fear in an individual, so much so that they put their work off until the last possible second, but it is really just a matter of anxiety that prevents him or her because he or she doesn't understand the material. My approach involves applying the material based on an individual's level of understanding by integrating the subject matter with practical tasks. As we prepare ourselves for a career, it becomes more and more apparent that our employer will not give us the simple task of solving for "x". If one is able to relate specific problems to everyday life and their interest, then that problem becomes more common place and less of a burden. Everything that we learn now is simply a tool that we will aid us in the future. I'm a firm believer that everyone will eventually fall, but it's only when you brush yourself off and keep moving forward that you succeed.
