I graduated from The Ohio State University with a dual degree in Microbiology and Political Science with Research Distinction. I absolutely love to teach anything and everything! I have been a swim instructor at Lifetime Fitness for almost five years, and have been an informal academic tutor throughout my years as a student. I especially enjoy teaching science and math, as I feel these subjects tend to give students the most trouble. However, I am partial towards the social sciences and essay writing, as demonstrated in my Political Science degree. I love and loathe the writing process, especially after authoring a multidisciplinary thesis on the cholera epidemic in Haiti as an undergrad. I would love to accompany other students on their quest for good writing, as I have experienced how important good writing skills are to motivate change and make important point known. By nature, and my swim students can attest to this, I am an enthusiastic teacher. I think learning is awesome, and I make sure my students feel the same way. I like breaking down topics until they become intuitive, and after creating this scaffolding, we can begin to integrate into more difficult complex topics. In my free time, I enjoy volunteering in health care settings, I'm an avid yogi, and I love to swim.

Practice, make mistakes, practice, and then practice again.

Making little achievable goals so the student sees their progress.

Try explaining the skill or concept in different ways.

Ask guided questions and give lots of praise for correct answers.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Making it clear that I believe in their ability to succeed.

Build their confidence towards the subject.

Ask a lot of questions...a lot.
