Mattius
Certified Tutor
As both a tutor and a student in the Tucson area, my personal interests and passion for learning motivated me to try my best to study, understand, and teach in a variety of fields. I am very excited to motivate others' interests in a variety of subjects as well--indeed, whatever drives them to excel as students. It takes a lot of hard work to get a pupil interested in the core subjects necessary for today's educated workforce, but I hope that through my experiences, those who struggle with Middle School, High School, and College coursework--not to mention the daunting task of college applications--can benefit immensely. I am committed to professionalism as a tutor, and I guarantee visible progress in my pupils; but I'm a regular person, too. In between Chemistry labs or Literature classes, you might find me reading a book on Heritage Hill, or walking my dog with my fiance.
I am a recent graduate of the University of Arizona, wherein I achieved Summa Cum Laude status with degrees in English and Russian (with a minor in Pre-Med), but I have been active in accumulating useful experience in editing and writing scientific and nonfiction content. This is because I am very passionate about entering a career that provides the resources to move education forward, adapt to reforms in educational policy, and opens a dialogue with clients and educators about sustaining comprehensive educational technology that centralize curricula, assessment, reporting, monitoring, and instructional effectiveness in order to make education more accessible to the nation's students. I have both the education and the experience to be of great use as a tutor. With the upcoming implementation of Common Core Standards for Science content areas, I am equipped with the tools and experience in areas both technical and practical to help students adapt to scientific (as well as math and language arts) learning objectives. I am a published author and a working editor, writing works for our own UA literary magazine Persona as well as devoting my time to freelance tutoring and editing for multiple students in the UA Writing Program. I am also currently participating in an internship as a technical writer and educator at CCLAC, Inc.' an NPO involved in formulating curricula for digital literacy components of the pre-existing Common Core in low-income regions of Tucson, Arizona and Sonora, Mexico. All in all, I have several years of tutoring and instructing children from Middle School to College age groups that struggle, particularly in core concepts critical for mainstream education in the US.
