Tutoring review by Heather in Hialeah, FL
Today we spent the session making note cards for a question-answer game to play to continue preparing for her Science test on Friday. The Science test will cover fish, amphibians, and reptiles. The cards that we made cover the defining characteristics of each, as well as important definitions. Hopefully the information will be very helpful for her on the test. She seemed to be pretty comfortable with the material already. We played the game a few times and by the end, she knew the material on the cards quite well. She will need to review more tomorrow to make sure the information stays fresh in her memory.

Tutoring review by Gabrielle in Hialeah, FL
The student had done a full length English and Reading on her own. We looked through the score for each, focusing in detail on the Reading section. We talked about how to approach the section and went through each wrong answer, making sure to work on the best way for her to find each answer and how to find the right answer on anything confusing. After that, we looked through the English and tried to find some consistent issues she had with her answers. After covering some of the general concepts, we talked about how she could apply that to more work. She has a specific set of sections to work on before we meet again, which should definitely include timing herself to make sure she is comfortable with the time.

Today we continued to review geometry, going through the sample problems the student worked on for homework. We also went through her essay revisions and her second essay. I asked her to revise specific paragraphs in each essay for homework, and I'm also giving her geometry problems to work on.

We went over the student's homework assignments (writing assignment and a worksheet).  He has a good understanding of grammar rules.  He wrote more of his script, and we went through the corrections together.  We also worked on using the correct modal verbs and punctuation involving conjunctions.  He was given a conjunction worksheet and a reading/writing assignment for homework.  Next session we are going to work on diagramming sentences.

The student and I reviewed homework left from the last session, including solving one-step algebraic equations, calculating averages, circumference, and the area of circles. We discussed the problems that she missed and reworked them until she got the correct answer. Additionally, we practiced working through word problems on the quantitative reasoning section of her practice test. We plan to focus on word problems in the next several sessions to increase her testing speed.

The student and I went over and discussed the material in his textbook for Units 20 and 21 in great detail.  We were sure to take note of all the events listed in the chronology sections at the end of each chapter.  Brandon took detailed notes with dates, names, places, and events.  We discussed his last test briefly, and his impression of how it went.
