Tutoring review by Matthew in West Virginia
Nora did last week's homework to complete a practice exam on her own. We reviewed all of the problems that she struggled with during that exam, which were mainly interest measurement problems and geometry problems. She is going to sit for her exam on January 7, which gives us four sessions together before exam date. I suggested that she complete another practice exam or two before next session, and we will similarly go over the questions that she missed.

The student and I worked through a worksheet he brought. It introduced reflection, rotation, and symmetry. After finishing the worksheet, I had him practice reflecting and rotating shapes. I also had him try a few more difficult symmetry problems.

The student just started a unit on radicals and exponents. He wanted help with the properties of exponents and converting from radical expressions to rational exponents and back. We went over all of the questions he had, and then he said he was finished.

Tutoring review by Dan in West Virginia
Today we covered converting between fractions, decimals, and percents. We also went over word problems with fractions, decimals, and percents. The student was just having a bit of difficulty with the problems because they were very advanced problems that required a lot of steps. Her attitude was positive during the whole session. We went over how to break down the problems and set them up with variables if needed. We were able to wrap up working on her extension packet, but she will be receiving a new one soon. I did not see any grades at this time, but I believe she is doing well in class. No concerns at all. A big win was finally finishing the extension packet! Woo!

We reviewed log transformations for the student's homework. After working with him for a few sessions now, I'm beginning to see the trend that he sometimes rushes through his work. I think if he were to slow down and think about some of the problems, he might make fewer mistakes in getting to his final answer.

Tutoring review by Kathryn in West Virginia
The student and I began by going over writing phrases as variable expressions, writing sentences as equations, and solving one-step equations. Next, he defined variables, expressions, equations and inequalities and identified examples of those. He followed that by studying and using number properties: commutative property, associative property, identity property, zero property, and distributive property. He named properties shown by equations. He also rewrote expressions using the property indicated. For the distributive property, he rewrote expressions using the distributive property. I left him with a packet to work on and explained to him how to use Order of Operations so that he could use it on his homework.
