The student is bright, motivated, and diligent. He did homework online for factoring polynomials and solving quadratic equations. He knows more than he thinks he does, and gathered speed and confidence as he progressed. He grasps methods and concepts quickly. We reviewed several earlier concepts, such as point-slope linear solutions, graphing lines and curves, plus previous test errors. Most are caused by speed and lack of familiarity with definitions. This should be easy to overcome. We will meet next week for a similar session of homework and review.

In today's session, the student learned new TOEFL words through reading and vocabulary exercises. In addition, she practiced TOEFL speaking. She learned to pay attention to the time limit of TOEFL speaking, and tried to use organizational words in her answers. There are four vocabulary exercises for her as homework. After finishing the exercises, she should find out the meaning and usage of those new words by using a dictionary.

For this session, the student and I focused on the differences between prime and composite numbers. She mentioned that she knew the differences but also added that it takes her a little longer to multiply numbers in her head. By saying this, we focused our attention on drilling her 12's and 9's time tables. She did in fact calculate at a slower pace but after about 30 min of drilling she was in fact multiplying at a faster pace. In addition to practicing her times tables I also gave her exercises to find all prime numbers between two numbers.

Today, we worked on linear expressions using points and slopes. We also practiced using functions to find y values. The student has a test tomorrow and a paper due, so she will have to do a lot of work before school tomorrow. With enough practice, and by going slowly, she will be okay for her test.

We focused mainly on the online Math projects and how to get the program to solve integrals, derivatives, and summations. We also used it to graph various functions as well as generate Taylor polynomials and find the approximation of the integral or derivative. Some of the problems were a review of previous topics, such as calculating work and finding the volume for a solid of revolution.

Student 1 has been studying geometric proofs in Geometry. She seems fairly confident with the material. She knows the proofs but seemed to need help with the algebraic problems that require proof knowledge to solve. After working through the problems she seemed to struggle with, she gained more confidence in her abilities. She should do well on her upcoming quiz. Student 2 and I have not had the opportunity to work on Math ACT problems recently but picked up with these exercises this week. I had her work on problems while I helped Student 1, and then I reviewed her work. I directed her to memorize certain equations and formulas.
