It is obvious the student has been working with a tutor for some time. She is eager to review the concepts and definitions of what she is learning, and is phenomenal at showing her work as we moved through the problems. I tried to begin from square one with the logarithms and exponents, and we made some serious progress in understanding the reasoning and purpose behind these operations. She may benefit from doing more operations in her head or on paper and not with calculator. I foresee great improvement for her provided she can keep up with her homework and do problems on her own.

This was our first session together. During our first session the student and I prepared for his Chapter 14 test that would occur on the following day. The student appeared to lack confidence in the material prior to our session. The session was breaking down arithmetic and geometric sequences and series. The goal was to understand the formulas and not to simply memorize them. As he began to understand the formulas he could apply which formula went with each set of numbers and developed a stronger understanding of the material. In our short hour together, I saw a lot of growth from him in the material being covered.

The student was very excited to get started on multiplication practice. She loves the practice book she uses and enjoys doing the exercises. After two pages, I challenged her to multiply larger numbers with each other. I also had her practice order of operations. She wanted to know how to divide two fractions, and we practiced fractions for a bit as well. Tomorrow we will continue working on fractions.

We reviewed graph linear equations, slope, intercept concepts, and word problems. The student had a fairly good concept of the subject matter.

During this session, the student and I kept on going over an end of course exam packet that her teacher gave her to review. We focused a lot on the problems dealing with all types of exponents, including negative and fraction exponents. Afterwards, she got all of the sample problems right. We also reviewed a lot of factoring and parabolas. We went over how to find the inverse of a given function and did a couple of examples dealing with that as well. Overall, this was a good review session.

We focused on diagramming sentences in Latin and English so that the student will understand how the mechanics of the grammar and sentences work more completely. He translated basic sentences from Lingua Latina. In general, he needs to be reviewing all the material from his past classes, as I mentioned previously.
