Glasgow Spanish 4 Tutoring FAQ
If you have made it to Spanish 4, you have already learned about many different features of the Spanish language. Spanish 4 helps you take further steps toward fluency by introducing you to even more complex features of the language. For example, while you typically learn about the subjunctive mood and the pluperfect tense in Spanish 3, you learn these concepts in isolation. Spanish 4, in contrast, challenges you to make use of the pluperfect subjunctive. You are asked to learn how it is conjugated for regular and irregular verbs, accurately translate pluperfect subjunctive Spanish constructions into English, and make use of such constructions in your own spoken and written Spanish.
As you expand your knowledge of the mechanics of the Spanish language to include more complex features, instructors may expect you to display sophistication of expression nearly on par with your English-speaking abilities. The amount of cumulative knowledge you are expected to utilize can compound the difficulty of new material to make Spanish 4 coursework overwhelming for even top students. Group-based instruction cannot provide targeted assistance, and printed resources suffer from the same problem. Additionally, both of these methods are completely impersonal.
Where these other study options come up short, custom-tailored Spanish 4 tutoring can help. Your personal tutor approaches each session with your unique concerns, goals, and needs in mind. The educational directors at Varsity Tutors can begin this process of customization by taking stock of your academic profile to help you connect with the tutor whose skill set and experience makes them best suited to work with you. Then, your tutor can analyze your mastery of written and spoken Spanish and design a tutoring plan that focuses on the areas in which you need to shore up your understanding.
This means that tutoring is not constrained to just Spanish 4. It can also help you brush up on content from previous classes. You may be surprised at how efficient and effective Spanish 4 tutoring can be as a result of the custom-tailored nature of your sessions. All tutoring is one-on-one, so any questions you have about the material can be answered on the spot, and your tutor can help you correct any misunderstandings you may have unwittingly accumulated throughout your Spanish studies.
Your tutor can also act as a conversation partner who can provide instant feedback on your spoken Spanish. If you are preparing for a placement test or standardized exam that involves a listening component and/or a speaking portion, such practice can really make a big difference to how you fare on test day. A classroom setting is not overly effective when it comes to learning how to speak a foreign language. You are typically given limited opportunities to speak the language, and you may feel uncomfortable speaking in front of a classroom full of other students. A private tutor can be extremely helpful in this regard because they can give you as much practice as you need in a judgment-free environment. Plus, rather than simply using Spanish to answer questions in class, you will have plenty of opportunities to use Spanish with your private tutor in a conversational setting.
Varsity Tutors makes it a priority to focus on flexibility and convenience. Your tutor can meet you in a location that's best for you, or our live learning platform allows you to meet with your private tutor face-to-face online. This enables you to choose the time and place that works best for you. If you are having trouble in class or want help in analyzing and bolstering your current abilities, contact our educational directors today. They can provide you with more information about the advantages of Spanish 4 tutoring and help you connect with an experienced and skilled tutor.

Recent Glasgow Spanish 4 Tutoring Session Notes
Student one: We worked through every packet she received this semester so that we could cover every definition she received as time passed. After working through a few problems she had, we made it through all six packets and she reviewed every aspect of her course. I'm sure she did very well.
Student two: We worked through his calculus review a second time. We also reviewed some important crucial derivatives for a calc final. He should also do very well.
We discussed the issues that he was having with his Spanish class. Then I presented an overview of different Spanish countries as well as various types of music, literature, film, and other sources that we could draw on for our lessons. Later, we selected certain types of music, readings, and news sources that we will be using for our future lessons.
My first session with the student went well. I met him and his parents and we discussed what his short term and long term goals were. The student said his goals were to pass this class with the highest grade possible but also to better communicate and understand Spanish so that he could ultimately become a fluent speaker. I assessed him with a few Spanish 3 review questions. He showed a good understanding of the level 3 concepts but was hesitant and unsure when speaking or answering questions. I realized he needed to be re-assured when his answers were right, which I was pleasantly surprised was most of the time. I ended the session by reviewing and explaining the topics from his homework assignment and he gave me a copy of his syllabus and the names of the books he was going to use for his Spanish 4 class.
We went over pages 6-11 in his textbook. It covered the geographical regions of Spain and a little bit of Spanish history in the middle ages and up to the unification of Spain with Ferdinand and Isabella.
This was my first session with the student. She mentioned that she is in Spanish 4 and that this is the first time the teacher is completely instructing in Spanish. Today we addressed the student's issues in the class and came up with a game plan of how to help her through the class. She wants me to come up with review worksheets for her to do at home in order to re-learn the Spanish she needs in order to keep up in this advanced class. Today we reviewed common adjectives, basic verb conjugations, and a review of necessary verbs. We talked about the difference between Ser and Estar. Her goal is eventually to have me speak to her in Spanish during our sessions, so that she feels more comfortable starting to speak Spanish in class.
I had my first session with the student today. He is in an immersion class and he struggles a bit with the speaking and conversation. He is doing well in the class, so he just needs some additional help. He also reported to me that he sometimes forgets his conjugations for certain verb tenses. Today we reviewed the present subjunctive, pas subjunctive, and the present perfect, and past perfect tenses. We also practiced some speaking and conversational Spanish. He seems to understand and know the material really well. We'll do some more speaking next week incorporating the vocabulary on his class quizzes, and spend more time reviewing some irregular verbs.
