Reading Tutoring review by Meggan in Reading
We added an additional session for the winter break. Today followed a similar format to previous sessions. We worked on writing silly sentences about snowmen. We also practiced sounding out CVC words and reading/ identifying them in sentences. We ended our session with sight word practice and reading a leveled book.

Reading Tutoring review by BethAnn in Reading
The student practiced the first 25 second grade sight words. He read a second grade passage "Soap Boats" and missed these words: says, sailing, cries, sea, under, and it's. He was able to answer questions about characters and setting correctly. He was not able to make a prediction or an inference. We played "Who Has the Bigger Number?" with dice. He identified the correct double digit number in 4/8 trials. I prompted him to "look at the digits in the tens place." He did well. He read a second grade passage, "Colors" and answered 4/5 comprehension questions correctly. I left this passage in his home so that he could practice reading it each day, to increase fluency.

Reading Tutoring review by Hannah in Reading
For this session, we first reviewed a couple sections that the student had gone over in her social studies class to ensure that she was staying on track with her comprehension of the material. After that, we discussed her book report assignment and planned both her summary report, as well as her PowerPoint presentation. We made sure to identify key points such as the main characters, summary, and what she enjoyed about the book.

The student and I worked on completing her winter enrichment packet. We finished writing a creative essay. She effectively used her new vocabulary words in the essay. She also completed a vocabulary map worksheet. We then co-read an excerpt from the chapter book "Dork Diaries" to include in her reading log.

She is currently reading at her grade level and is being given a bit of challenge with more difficult material at the Grade 4 level. She is enjoying her reading sessions.

Reading Tutoring review by Abby in Reading
We reviewed the concepts of sequence and summary. The student defined them in his own words, and made a list of the necessary elements that belong in every summary. Then he wrote a sequence of events about his day, using words like first, then, next, and finally. Then we read a story from Encyclopedia Brown, focusing on reading for emphasis and punctuation. Afterwards, he wrote a sequential summary of the story. He is getting better at transferring his thoughts to paper. His comprehension is high, but sometimes in the retelling of a story he knows well he leaves out important details. We'll continue to focus on this.
