I have completed my undergraduate degree in biological sciences at University of Wisconsin - Parkside along with a master's in biological sciences with a concentration in health studies at Nova Southeastern University. I have always been very fond of children. I love teaching and interacting with them because it makes me happy to foster curiosity and interest in subjects that may be considered traditionally boring. I'm in college right now and I'm studying to be a lawyer. I would love to bring my skills and knowledge to the the table! During college, I began tutoring through Upward Bound, a university-run program that provides resources for low-income high school students. At Upward Bound, I worked twice a week with the same students, helping them not only with homework, studying, and mastering the material, but also in honing their study skills and applying to colleges.I'm currently working part-time at a Montessori school in Richmond, Virginia, so I've worked with . I've also been a camp counselor for years, and have led various activities there, including low ropes, chess, archery, swimming, canoeing, and creative writing. I'm passionate not only about learning but about teaching how to learn, emphasizing the techniques of mastering material as well as teaching the material itself.

Born in the United States, I moved to France when I was seven years old. I'm getting my Master's in Philosophy at the CUNY Graduate Center after spending the last few years traveling the world and teaching English. As a teacher in South Korea and in India, I've had the privilege of teaching students of all ages (from early childhood to adult professionals) and ability levels. I tutor a variety of subjects in humanities and language arts; with a BA in Creative Writing from Seattle Pacific University, it's no surprise that my passion is helping students improve their writing skills. In my experience, everyone has a writer within, and unlocking that potential is one of my favorite experiences. Working in the rigorous educational environment of South Korea gave me experience helping students prepare for standardized tests of all kinds--and I know how students feel, because I recently took the GRE.I love to teach and I love to learn--and I want all my students to feel the same way. When students have a good time learning, they learn better and achieve more. In my experience, helping students explore their own creativity and build their critical thinking skills can help them excel in all subjects. Every student has their own learning style, and every learning style can be successful. I am a current undergraduate student at the University of Pittsburgh. I am studying Applied Mathematics, with a concentration in Theoretical Statistics and World History. I currently tutor other undergrad students at the tutoring center on campus and have been doing so for the last five months. I enjoy tutoring students in a wide range of subjects, but I have the most fun tutoring students in Calculus 1 and College Algebra. I believe that earning a high score on homework assignments and exams is important, but being able to see a student firmly understand a concept is where I gain my most enjoyment. In my free time, I enjoy going to the gym, reading, and playing video games with my friends.

During my days of being a student I have had the privilege of learning from some inspirational educators. From elementary, high-school, community college, and now at the university level there are learning experiences that stick out in each. These experiences shaped how I perceive and question the world around me, and will continue to throughout my experience. There were commonalities of each of these standout experiences, which in retrospect, I notice to outline my learning style. With a limited understanding of other learning styles, my philosophy of teaching would be very similar to the styles in which I benefited from the most.It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education. I believe that the ability to invoke and nurture curiosity was the most important commonality shared between the educators that I benefitted from the most. I believe curiosity to be the spark that is necessary to initiate true learning. I hold curiosity as the primary emphasis in my philosophy. I believe that the encouragement to question facts, theories, and even common knowledge should be supported without scrutiny. This, as opposed to passively accepting knowledge in the motivation of remembrance for evaluation. Curiosity, is what I believe to be a common trait of lifelong learners. This attitude toward all observable and non-observable aspects of life, is what I believe to be a main aspiration of education.I believe that showing the importance of learning and how it has inspired the theories, innovations, and personal fulfillment of many is also of central importance. In this way, the application of the subject could be presented in a way that brings understanding of its importance and relevance to a learner. I believe by showing the paths of many diverse figures that emphasis can be placed on the idea that learning is a personal experience. I don't believe that the learning of a student can be compared or evaluated under a narrow scope. I believe that emphasis must be placed on individual experience, as comparable to no other. This philosophy, in my opinion, creates a more nurturing environment to learners of many different capacities.I think that optimal learning takes place at the crossroads of curiosity and inspiration. Translating this into education of many students simultaneously is what I foresee as a crux of my philosophy. As no group of learners would have a unanimous interest in a particular subject, catering to those that do may leave some behind. Finding mutual ground of curiosity and interest would be very important to me as an educator. I believe that creating an inquiring and active environment for learners encourages creativity, curiosity, and an individualized experience. These, of which, I consider to be of primary importance to teaching.
