We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

Online 7th Grade Math Tutoring review by Michael
Today, the student and I studied for his upcoming test on solving and graphing inequalities. We studied the last two sessions on this material, with him successfully being able to demonstrate his knowledge of the material. We focused on two areas he identified as being "difficult": solving inequalities with fractions, and tips to graphing negative expressions on a number line. I gave him some practice problems, he got the hang of it, and we both think he will do very well on his test tomorrow. I believe this is the last session for us for this academic year. He has come a long way in the few months I have been tutoring him. His work is more organized, he is more focused, and he is more driven towards academic success than when we started. I think he is in a great place academically and developmentally to ensure success in 8th grade.

The student's mother and I have agreed to meet for tutorial sessions on a daily basis. On Monday, he and I worked on percentage change problems, and he appeared to understand the concepts, as he managed to do most of the problems with minimal help! I believe that if I have more time with him, then he should be ready for his final exam.

The student and I reviewed the first part of Chapter 8, 1 of 3 chapters that will be covered on his final exam, this week. I helped remind him of the main concepts of each section and then we proceeded to do practice questions, to test his understanding. He seemed to do very well, and is still working on slowing down, and showing all steps instead of just doing mental math, which in the past has led to some errors on his tests. I left him with some practice questions, and asked him to review Chapters 6 and 7 for our upcoming session on Wednesday.

In this session with the student, we went over his math homework dealing with the Pythagorean theorem. We discussed the general formula and how it relates to the two sides of a right triangle and hypotenuse. We covered several problems from his homework dealing with this, and discussed the best way to solve it. We also discussed how to find the area of a triangle. He did well understanding these concepts.

The student and I worked on geometry problems. I created a worksheet and we evaluated how to find area and volume of different geometric shapes. The student struggled with correctly interpreting the formulas so we practiced writing the formulas and correctly filling in each value. I also adjusted some of the values because it was difficult for him to distinguish between B (base of triangular prism= area of triangular base) and b (base of triangle). The student and I then started work on his end of year project for school. He intended to do a project on WWI drones. We started by doing some research, but he was unsatisfied. I suggested that he do some more research from multiple sources and then we could compile his work next week. I also left him a geometry worksheet.

I spent the first hour with one student working on angles and triangle problems for his math test. For the second student, we went over points, rays, line segments and lines, and right angles. I did not leave her with any extra practice, and have no concerns from this session.
