ACT Tutoring review by Lauren in Reading
We finished the ACT English test, and I introduced the ACT essay. The student's attitude was very positive, overall. I talked about strategy in terms of how to divide up the time for the essay and the best outline to use. I left the student with additional essay prompts for practice.

We finished the science section from last time and worked on some SAT Math 2 Subject Test questions. We have emphasized the importance of writing equations, drawing pictures, and reading the questions carefully to prompt us where to search for information. The student has been asked to complete at least an ACT reading section and more SAT Math 2 problems before we meet next time.

ACT Tutoring review by Apoorva in Reading
We finished up the math from yesterday and did about half of the reading and half of the science. The student is still struggling with the accuracy and timing, so I assigned her specific practice to do for tomorrow to help her prepare before the ACT on Saturday.

ACT Tutoring review by Reivin in Reading
We first started off by addressing the specific score goals. I will send the student a detailed 10-Day plan on Thursday. She seemed committed to following these guidelines to pull off at least a 30 or above. We focused on English. She went over the rules for semicolons and colons. We also revisited modifiers again. Verb tense was the greater challenge, but I will assign some extra practice for that over the next few days. She is expected to take the Science diagnostic test by tomorrow. She needs to take the Math Diagnostic test by Saturday and the Reading diagnostic tests by Sunday. She is super calm, and I have a strong sense she will do well if she puts in the amount of study time I suggest in her 10-Day plan.

ACT Tutoring review by Peter in Reading
We focused on ACT Reading, in particular how to find the main idea of a passage. For many passages/paragraphs, this entailed focusing on the first sentence of the paragraph. With more sciency passages, often the entire paragraph needed to be skimmed through to the last sentence to understand the point. The student had a good attitude, and I recommended some good practice problem sets from that include explanations.
