ACT Tutoring review by Jennifer in Westminster
Today, we reviewed 42 questions from the test prep materials that I provided for the student. We discussed the type of question he got incorrect and will continue to do so. I feel that his score will improve dramatically if he continues to practice. He has many questions to practice with for our next meeting; I asked that he continue with the English questions and also try to prepare 1-2 reading and science passages.

Focused on ACT math section, working almost exclusively on hardest problems. Differences from SAT proved difficult on certain questions, student had trouble on expanded topics such as logs and trig. Caution and consistency on easy and medium questions has been improved significantly, timing is still no issue.

Today, we started by covering the student's science homework. She did well initially, but then ran out of time. If she can keep her accuracy, without the timing problem, she'll be set. Towards this end, we focused on reading, because reading strategies will carry over to speed on the science section. We tried a new strategy, involving using a pen to control the speed at which she reads, by unveiling lines one at a time. Finally, we worked on some more math problems. She is improving across the board, and mainly needs help finishing the science section under time.

ACT Tutoring review by Sarah in Westminster
The student completed a practice math section, since our last session, and she scored around a 29 on it, which is a huge improvement from her first practice test. We went over some of the questions that she missed, and talked about how to approach difficult questions, by breaking them up into bits that she can do. Then, we finished discussing the reading section. I had her read a practice natural sciences passage, and we looked at questions together. She did fairly well on these. For next time, I asked her to complete a reading section. We finished our session by beginning to talk about the science section, which we will finish up next time.

ACT Tutoring review by Kourtney in Westminster
We covered English, Reading, and Science ACT practice problems. We also covered matrices. She missed one problem for each of the ACT practice sets, and four for the matrices. She needed help with multiplying matrices. I left her with another matrix worksheet.

ACT Tutoring review by Nisarg in Westminster
Today, we covered biology with data representation, experimental design, and research summary. The student needed help with experimental design, so we focused on it for multiple questions, and by the end she seemed well versed in them. She was excited to learn, as usual, and I left her with some strategies for the ACT science, such as reading but skimming and notes in the margin. I left her with some practice problems to do on an ACT app I suggested.
