My name is John Reynolds and I have a lot to offer current students in need of a tutor. My main area of focus is within the English discipline; which is what my Masters of Arts illustrates. As a long time writing tutor and a freshman composition professor, the study and teaching of writing is near and dear to my heart. While my research in both my MA and my PhD focus on academic writing, I have an appreciation for composing of all kinds, and love the ways that different genres play with different writing tools. I love to work with students on developing their writing and revising skills in any number of disciplines, and have the most experience working with academic essays, dissertations and theses, MLA and APA format, and creative writing. I enjoy working on all kinds of writing at all stages and will be there to help you develop writing skills that will not just improve your assignment, but your understanding of writing as well.

Studying for all of this at once can be annoying. However, it can be fun if you let it. To drive that home, my MFA is in Film Production. Both degrees were obtained from NYU. I received a 1550 on my SAT when it was out of 1600.My education career has been in the arts. I taught Editing at New York Film Academy and was the Chair of Post Production there as well. Throughout all of this, I have always kept my math and science skills sharp, mostly because I just love the subjects.

I graduated from college with a degree in political science at 20 years old, hold a certification in Intermediate-Advanced Chinese from the American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages, and received a Critical Language Scholarship from the US Department of State to study intensive advanced Mandarin in China in 2015.Studying and teaching intensive Chinese has helped me learn how to lay down the fundamentals of a subject and build on them, what topics in a subject to focus on and why, and how to teach students using teaching styles other than lecturing. After all, thanks to my experience teaching with the public school system, I know that one size doesn't, in fact, fit all. For students to learn at their best, a teacher must be flexible and ready to adapt to their needs. Whether it be teaching a language or teaching a mathematical concept, learning should flow in a natural, logical order for every student. In this way, I strive to cater to my students' academic needs as much as possible. Having been dropped into China with only two years of Mandarin under my belt, I understand how intimidating learning can be. I want to make learning a natural, logical process for my students.My hobbies include writing (I've been working on a novel for 10 years), audio engineering for live theatre, and building computers.

The recognition of how involved I was with collegiate life was not prevalent to me until after graduation, due to my diligence in making certain that I had an impactful experience. At the University I served as a Peer Mediator for Drug Awareness and Safety and as an Intern Chaplain, I was President of the Philosophy Club and a member of the prestigious President's Leadership Circle, also a work-study student in the Center for Career Development while extending my skills and talents beyond the call of duty, with also serving as an astute head usher for the Fine Arts Theatre while maintaining a 3.0 grade point average.Seeing individuals achieve a task thought impossible is exciting for me! And the children, I just hold a tender space in my heart for, while adoring what is socially considered the elderly, underserved and underprivileged. I offer intuitive inspiration that assists one with gaining insight for accomplishment.I have a laid-back approach while enjoying life, being ME, and loving it! All in the midst.

When I took the SATs in 2015, I got an overall score of 2120, and was in the 91st national percentile for writing, and in the 99th national percentile for critical reading, with a score of 770 out of 800.While at NYU I not only wrote numerous papers myself, but also helped many of my friends and peers with outlining, editing, and or revising theirs.Since graduating, I have written, script supervised, and helped shoot my own short film, as well as worked as a writers assistant to an academy award winning screenwriter.I primarily tutor high school and middle school students in writing, literature, history, and English, but can also tutor in middle school math and science. I am currently only meeting with students online.
