I love math! I am graduated from Penn State University in Industrial Engineering in 2017. I've tutored ever since I was in high school, and I love helping people! I like to help my students understand math (and other topics) instead of just doing it blindly. My goal is to help my students improve their math (and other topics) and build skills that will help them find learning easier in the future! Fun fact, I used to work for Disney and I like to salsa dance!

I first became interested in tutoring in high school, where I found myself helping friends in anything from AP Literature to the math portions on the SATs. In my experience, working one on one with people has been incredibly rewarding, as it allows for a deeper level of communication between the tutor and the tutee. I began tutoring more formally when I started attending college at Boston University. Throughout my junior year, I worked at BUs Writing Center as a writing consultant, where we help students with papers from the writing courses, ESL English courses, and various other courses in the College of Arts and Sciences. Being a consultant has given me the opportunity to work with students from diverse backgrounds, whether they be an ESL student in Biology or a student from Boston studying English, and I am excited to return to this work during my upcoming senior year.Working with so many different students has taught me a lot about tutoring, including valuable lessons about different learning styles and communication. My approach to tutoring is typically to begin with a discussion with the students about what they feel their strengths and weaknesses are, and their past experiences with the subject being discussed. I have found that engaging with the student and opening a line of communication helps me to determine what the focus of a session should be and how directly to approach learning specific topics. Some students require more direct visual step-by-step examples whereas others can benefit by completing a problem individually and then reviewing errors. Therefore, I try to keep in mind that figuring out a students learning process by asking questions about teaching styles and specific challenges is often just as important as the material being taught; not only does identifying these characteristics help me better tailor my tutoring approach, but it can also help the student better learn on their own.Outside of tutoring, I am an avid reader, movie lover, gamer, and concert-goer. When Im not re-reading my favorite Shakespeare play or watching the latest comic book movie, I can usually be found jumping up and down at a rock concert somewhere in the Boston area. Music has been an incredible influence upon my life, allowing me to connect with friends and strangers alike through the art of others. Im also a passionate animal lover, and I volunteer weekly to clean and (mostly) play with cats at the shelter, despite being a bit allergic. Additionally, being a computer science and philosophy double major at Boston University, I love discussing topics about technology and existentialism. People tend to say Im the textbook definition of a nerd, and Id have to proudly agree with them. I love learning new things and sharing knowledge with others, which is one of the reasons I find tutoring so rewarding. Oftentimes I find that as I help a student better understand a topic, I too get to learn quite a lot from them, and Im excited to continue to share my love of knowledge with others.

I am a graduate of the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. I received my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. Since graduation, I have tutored high school students in algebra, geometry, precalculus, and statistics; adults in college looking for remedial help as well as standard college level math including calculus, differential equations, and discrete math. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for standardized tests, we always seem to have the most fun (with remarkable advancements) prepping for the mathematics and quantitative reasoning sections. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy reading US History and STEM textbooks, playing my Nintendo Switch, and the odd game of Catan.

I am an undergraduate student at the University of Washington pursuing a degree in Computer Science. For the past 3 years I've been working at an afterschool coding academy Mighty Coders and helping kids ages 7-14 understand concepts in subjects like Python, JavaScript, and more, while also teaching them how to create personal projects/games in those languages. At Varsity Tutors, I teach technology and coding classes and programming languages. I strive to create a fun learning environment while also providing my students with the resources they'll need to be more independent learners, so being able to fix their own issues or learn new concepts on their own if they need/want to.

Adaptable, energetic and passionate business professional, I love helping students of all ages explore and connect learning to real-world problems. I am excited to use my 20+ years of business, technology and education experience - including 3 years of tutoring 1st - 4th grade and high school students - to guide students on the pathway of learning. In my years of experience as a Special Education Inclusion teacher and an E-learning teacher, I enjoyed helping students discover ways to understand and utilize math concepts. I have an uncanny ability to break down complicated concepts to simple steps and also challenge students to higher-level thinking.I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana. I majored in Computer Science and Business Administration and minored in Drama. Recently, I completed my Transition to Teaching certification to obtain licensure in secondary education - Computer Science.I primarily tutor in math and computer science. However, I also have public speaking experience and strong communication skills. While my degree is in Computer Science, I think my favorite topic is algebra. I find joy in discovering the value of variables! As I tutor students, I do not give answers. I have conversations with students, ask questions and teach them techniques to help them find the answers. I value the process of learning how to learn. This process is unique to each individual. I believe every individual has the potential to learn, some may already know how they learn; others are still discovering what works best for them. I work to help students discover their learning process. In my free time I enjoy fitness, food, playing sports, hanging out with friends and snuggling with my puppy.
