We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

The student and I worked on more word problems. We primarily worked on word problems that involved two and three steps. He is really improving and he can now answer many of the simpler problems without prompting. I left him with seven more word problems and asked him to try to do them by himself without the help of his parents. We will go over these problems during our next tutoring session. I also asked his father to make him some flashcards for multiples of 6,7,8 and 9.

We started today with the student's class covering differential calculus. We first reviewed a learning module, which covered concepts such as derivative calculations, continuity and differentiability, and a graphical interpretation of the derivative. Next, we worked through homework problems relating to these concepts, including graphical interpretation of rates of change, calculating derivatives from functions, and applications of derivatives. While there were some issues with algebra, he got a grasp of the calculus concepts quickly. In the meantime, he will continue to attend class, see what problems come up, and prepare for the examination on the 24th.

We continued to review how to graph trigonometric functions by identifying the amplitude, phase shift, period shift and vertical shift. Today, we focused more closely on period shifts. The student has a good command over the material. He was able to complete his problem set with very little help. Overall, he feels good with the material and he said that he completely understands what is going on in class thanks to our tutoring sessions.

Tutoring review by Danny in Orange, CA
The student and I wrote a response paper for his English class, based on his assigned reading. He was able to answer five out six questions his teacher asked. The teacher told him that the final exam would implement the exact same questions from his midterm, which is great news. As long as he memorizes those answers over the next five to six weeks, he will have at least two-thirds of the questions on the final exam memorized. He still has one more marketing mid-term (there are two in this class) in a few weeks, so after we finished the paper tonight, we began reviewing for that exam. We will dedicate a portion of each session from here on out to preparing for each of his marketing exams.

We started off reading a story about watches, he did very well. We then read a poem, level C, the words were longer and more difficult, but he tackled them pretty well. Afterwards we worked on writing our letters a, b, d and o, I am trying to give him tools so that he doesn't reverse his letters. So proud of him!
