Ella: Bristol tutor
Certified Tutor
I am in my third year at Toronto Metropolitan University, pursuing an Honours degree in Politics and Governance. As an aspiring educator, I understand the importance of strong academic support and how it can shape a student's learning journey. My tutoring experience includes working with Grade 9 students in the Core French program, focusing on grammar, spelling, and comprehension. I also spent nine months teaching English as a second language through the nonprofit organization Youth4Youth, where I tutored a student with limited access to education due to restrictions in their home country.
Together, we worked on developing her listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while preparing for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). While language tutoring is my main area of experience, I am also well-versed in subjects like World History, English Literature and Math. I believe the best learning happens through collaboration, since each student brings unique strengths. I try to tailor my lessons to better reflect their strengths and build on them.
My sessions are generally quite visual and practice-oriented, typically split 40% instruction and 60% applied work. I am committed to helping every one of my students to gain the skills, but more importantly, the confidence they need to succeed.

Outside of tutoring and my own studies, I enjoy spending time outdoors. Whether it's going on a hike or reading a good book in the backyard, I find that time in nature helps me recharge and stay connected to the world around me. I used to be a competitive dancer, and while I no longer compete, I understand the challenges of balancing schoolwork with extracurriculars. To stay active, I try to run 4 to 5 times a week, not just for physical health, but also because it helps me start my day feeling accomplished. In my downtime, I also enjoy playing card games like Euchre, Gin Rummy, and Pinochle with my friends and family. Maintaining a balance between academics and personal interests is something I value deeply and encourage my students to strive for in their own lives.
