I am a heritage Spanish speaker (Mexican) and I have been learning French for almost 9 years now, taking AP, IB and college-level French courses. I have received multiple awards for my French skills, including Le Grand Concours Certificat D'Honneur and a Certificate of Outstanding Achievement in International Baccalaureate French. I have also taken multiple college-level and IB courses in English and creative writing. Students can always see samples of my writing if needed.
Currently, I am a Posse Scholar working on earning my bachelors in neuroscience with a minor in French. As a neuroscience major, I use what I'm learning about the brain and its relationship to the body to enhance my students' learning. I use what can be called 'practical neuroscience', or using neuroscience to improve everyday tasks that include learning while teaching my students. One of the ways I do this is by quizzing my students during each session. Quizzing is an effective way of encoding what the student is learning into long term memory.
My experience involves tutoring Spanish, French, Japanese and ESL. I've previously worked with students in middle school, high school and college. In high school, I worked with ENGin for 2 years. This is a program that aims to help Ukrainian students learn English with native English speakers. I have tutored beginner, intermediate and advanced ESL and other language students. What I enjoyed most about working with my students was that we talked to one another in a comfortable way. Our conversations ranged from random topics like the importance of crocheting to more serious topics. Even though I was the tutor and they were my students, we were able to have conversations that lasted hours, building friendships.
