In my nearly thirty years in the classroom, I've been honored to partner with students in Los Angeles, Tokyo, New York City, and Iowa. As the child of two teachers myself, I learned early on how rewarding a shared, contributory life of the heart and mind can be.
I graduated from Stanford University in 1991 with a B.A. in American Studies, which is a hybrid of literature and history. I then went to live and teach in Tokyo, helping aspiring GMAT and LSAT students. After returning to NYC, I wrote a book of poems that helped me gain entrance to the Iowa Writer's Workshop, where I taught undergraduates Literature and Creative Writing while earning my M.F.A. in Poetry.
At St. Joseph's School in Harlem, I was quickly hooked by the inimitable passion and progress of a middle school classroom. I then headed back West for ten wonderful years at Harvard Westlake and John Thomas Dye Middle Schools. I've had the privilege of working with dozens of tutees in the course of my career.
I'm devoted to a life of learning, laughter, and service that, in my experience, only teaching can provide.
