Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of Texas A &M International University and Lamar University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Social Studies with certification for 8th - 12th grade. This led me to being a composite social studies high school teacher for 7 years. During that time I taught the gamut of all the high school grade levels in a variety of subjects including world geography, world history, U.S. history, sociology, psychology, as well as a PSAT prep course. Wanting to be able to assist students in more than just my area of certification led me to pursue a master's degree in school counseling from Lamar University. I was a middle school counselor for 3 years in a small school district which means that I was also the designated testing coordinator, 504 coordinator, and LPAC coordinator. During COVID I decided to pursue another specialization that is important to me which culminated in me earning my professional certificate as an Educational Diagnostician. I am now an Educational Diagnostician at an elementary school which allows me to interact with students of all academic achievement levels including struggling learners who are being evaluated for special education services. My unique journey through the education field has given me the opportunity to interact with students at all grade levels. While I have the ability to tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about World History, U.S. History, and Creative Writing. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for Standardized Tests including the STAAR U.S. History exam, I utilized released tests questions and critical thinking in order to assist students in becoming confident in their ability to master the content. I am a firm proponent of education, as it has helped to shape my life and is a way to ensure a student's prosperous future. I have utilized my knowledge to assist my own children whether it be in assisting my elementary school aged son with his homework or assisting my high school sophomore with his dual credit U.S. History 1302 class including assisting him to organize his thoughts/edit his primary source analysis report or helping him study for his quizzes and final exam. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, traveling, and spending quality time with my family which allows me to continue my journey to be a lifetime learner.
