Certified Tutor
A specialist in nineteenth-century literature as well as a former editor of a literary magazine, I teach students how to study literature, language, and their historical contexts. I am passionate about a wide range of periods and topics, and I teach my students to think creatively and critically about writing from the past and present. Through working with a wide range of students, I have developed a passion for teaching critical thinking and writing. I have studied at the University of Chicago and Fordham University, and I have taught or lectured at many places across the world, including in London, Oxford, Paris, and New York. I especially love to teach students how to read narrative fiction, the way that novels and short stories can teach us new and exciting things about the world.
A specialist on writers such as Herman Melville, I love the opportunity to work through complicated or dense books to build the tools of literary critical analysis. Through this experience, I see individual and personalized feedback on student writing as a necessary component of developing their writing and composition skills.
I take my students seriously: in terms of what they're able to achieve in the classroom, the support they need to meet those expectations, and what they plan to do with their education going forward. In this spirit, I aim to build the skills by which students can more efficiently, artfully, and productively express their perspective both in course assignments and in the writing that they will produce for the rest of their careers.
