I view myself as a partner in learning, not just a subject matter expert. Many times, asking the right question is more important than having a ready answer. My favorite thing is to be asked a question I don't have an answer for. This provides a chance to explore the topic alongside a student, demonstrating the best ways to seek and identify reliable scholarly information.
I graduated from The University of North Florida with my Master's in English, and finished my Associate Degree in Nursing at Florida State College of Jacksonville. I'm currently working with The Project Management Institute toward my CAPM certification. Since graduation, I've been a professional nomad, working in elementary and preschool education, collegiate level teaching, and writing lab tutoring. I also taught English to students in Beijing during the first days of Covid, when I was in nursing school. Completing my own education while supporting the education of others in a virtual space has particularly equipped me to navigate the nuances of teaching online.
I tutor Nursing courses, NCLEX prep, Literature, Reading, and Writing for all ages. My own style of visual and kinetic learning allows me to connect easily with younger students on a variety of other topics, including Math and the sciences. While Literature and Reading are my first academic loves, my favorite subject to tutor is truly the ones my students find most challenging. Identifying a learning barrier and helping a student to navigate it is truly a marvelous moment.
