Joel: Greenburgh tutor
Certified Tutor
Teaching and mentorship have always been at the core of my professional journey. Throughout my career in procurement, cost analysis, and supply chain management, I've found immense satisfaction in guiding otherswhether helping colleagues refine their analytical skills or supporting learners in grasping complex concepts. My passion for tutoring stems from a desire to empower students, helping them build confidence in their abilities and develop a structured approach to problem-solving.
As a father, I enjoy helping my children learn and fully understand the "why" behind each concept. In addition to my own children, I have mentored to others as a football and softball coach, finding joy in breaking down skills into approachable lessons that build both confidence and competence. Seeing students and athletes realize their own potential is one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching.
My teaching philosophy is centered on fostering independence and critical thinking. Rather than simply providing answers, I encourage students to explore concepts, ask thoughtful questions, and build frameworks for problem-solving that will benefit them long-term. My tutoring style is highly interactive, combining structured lessons with practical examples to enhance comprehension. I am adaptable and ultimately looking to have fun while we learn!
My academic background has helped shape my approach which prioritizes patience, adaptability, and engagement. I received my Bachelor's Degrees from Indiana University Indianapolis in Business Management and Human Resource Management. In addition, I completed my Master's Degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in Business Administration.
My favorite subjects to tutor are:
Social Studies (History, Geography, Economics): I enjoy exploring how societies evolve, how economies function, and how geography shapes global interactions. Understanding these disciplines helps students develop a broader perspective on the world and make informed connections between past and present.
Math (Basic Math, Algebra, Statistics): Numbers tell stories, reveal patterns, and drive problem-solving. Math teaches logic and structured thinkingskills that translate into real-world decision-making and professional success.
Science (Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science): The natural world is full of fascinating complexities. Science provides the tools to question, discover, and innovate, making it an exciting subject to explore with students who are curious about how things work.
Ultimately, tutoring allows me to merge my passion for mentorship with my love for learning, creating a space where students feel encouraged, challenged, and empowered. Helping others build confidence in their abilities and develop practical skills is not just something I doit's something I genuinely enjoy.

Some of my interests and hobbies are: - Playing games with my kids: Especially strategy games like Monopoly on rainy or cold days is always exciting. - Puzzles: Another fun rainy or cold activity to do with occasionally a movie on in the background. - Sports: Remains a lifelong passion, whether coaching, playing, or watching, I am a fan of most sports, but especially football, baseball, and basketball. - Traveling: This has always fuel my curiosity. I have always enjoyed studying maps, so now that I am older I love being able to travel to these places with my family that I have dreamt of as a kid. - Working outside: I enjoy building things in the yard (gardens, patios, playsets, etc).
