Certified Tutor
I'm a former Coordinator for International Relations (CIR) through the JET program with a variety of experience in translation, interpretation, and living in Japan.
I studied Japanese at the University of Montana and abroad at Sophia University in Tokyo before graduating and working in Japan professionally as a CIR in Matsue, Shimane Prefecture.
As someone that has spent a great deal of time both learning the language myself and using it professionally, I've discovered much about how to approach learning Japanese as well as some common pitfalls people fall into along the way. While I primarily tutor Japanese, especially for students earlier in their learning careers, I also teach English. Native Japanese speakers learning English may find my unique perspective valuable as I can help bridge concepts between both languages and cultures.
Since leaving Japan, I've worked as a substitute teacher for the GED program of the Salem-Keizer School District. I pride myself on adapting my teaching and curriculum to the individual needs and goals of my students. My passion for exploring and enjoying Japanese culture makes me an excellent resource for teaching in the context of actual media, be it novels, music, manga, anime, or other facets of the culture.

Japanese media, particularly novels, music, manga, and anime. I'm especially fond of science fiction and romance works. Other than that, I love to run, write, and have recently taken up knitting!
