Elias: North Massapequa tutor
Certified Tutor
I hold two Bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Communication with an emphasis in health from California State University Channel Islands, where I cultivated a strong academic foundation and a deep appreciation for the learning process. More recently, I earned a Master's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Northeastern Illinois University. My passion for education grew out of my own experiences as both a student and a foreign English teacher in countries like Indonesia, Taiwan, and Vietnam. I've since dedicated myself to helping others unlock their potential and gain confidence in their abilities.
Over the years, I've had the privilege of working with a wide range of students from elementary school learners building essential English language skills to high school students navigating the challenges of refining said skills. Whether guiding a student through the intricacies of pronunciation, breaking down complex grammatical concepts, or helping shape a compelling college essay, I strive to make each session engaging, encouraging, and tailored to the learner's unique style.
I tutor a variety of subjects, including college essay writing, the American Psychological Association style of writing, and study techniques; but I'm especially drawn to English as a second language, as I find it incredibly rewarding to see students connect with material in new and meaningful ways. Watching that "aha" moment when a student finally grasps a concept that once seemed out of reach is one of the most fulfilling parts of tutoring for me.
My teaching philosophy centers around patience, clarity, and curiosity. I believe that a supportive learning environment and a student-centered approach make all the difference. By breaking down material into manageable steps and encouraging questions and critical thinking, I help students build both mastery and motivation.
