Certified Tutor

My journey in mathematics education began as an undergraduate at the University of The Gambia, where I discovered my dual passion for advanced mathematics and teaching. While completing my Bachelor's degree, I served as a peer tutor for Calculus, Algebra, and Differential Equations - an experience that taught me how to adapt complex concepts for different learning styles. This early teaching experience revealed the profound satisfaction of helping classmates transition from confusion to mastery.

After graduation, I spent a transformative year teaching mathematics at the high school level. This experience sharpened my ability to:
- Break down advanced topics into foundational components
- Develop engaging, real-world applications for abstract concepts
- Build confidence in students who believed they "weren't math people"

Now pursuing my Master's in Mathematics at Saint Louis University while working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, I've come full circle - teaching College Algebra to undergraduates. My diverse teaching background, spanning from high school classrooms to university lecture halls, has given me unique insight into the mathematics learning continuum.

What excites me most is the moment when a student's perspective shifts from "I have to memorize this" to "I understand why this works." In my current role, I emphasize:
- **Conceptual bridges**: Connecting new material to students' existing knowledge
- **Strategic struggle**: Guiding students through productive challenges
- **Mathematical communication**: Teaching students to articulate their reasoning

While I'm comfortable teaching across the mathematical spectrum, I'm particularly drawn to the elegant problem-solving of discrete mathematics and the precision of analysis. These subjects exemplify mathematics' beautiful interplay between creativity and logic.

My ultimate goal remains constant: to transform mathematics from a feared subject into an empowering toolkit for every student I teach.

Beyond teaching, I enjoy soccer, playing video games which often provide unexpected analogies for mathematical concepts. Whether I'm playing soccer or playing games, I'm always looking for new ways to make mathematics feel alive and accessible.
