My early love of reading led to my passion for writing, and eventually, both the reading and writing led to a love of teaching. (A decade in the publishing world of magazines and newspapers happened first.) Sometimes, of course, the satisfaction of teaching doesn't happen immediately. But soon enough, I'll see in a student's eye that they have "got it"--the work both of us have put in to reach understanding has paid off. Most importantly, the student's confidence in their own writing begins to grow, and it shows in each sentence they write. That leap in learning is the reward when teaching.
