Education has played a transformative role in my life. Coming from the Philippines, I worked hard in high school to earn the opportunity to study in the United States. I understand that, at a young age, it can be easy to view school as a burden rather than an opportunity. My goal as a tutor is to help students realize the value of education and empower them to achieve their dreams.
I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Richmond with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics and a minor in Secondary Education.
Throughout high school and college, I have been deeply involved in tutoring and mentorship. In high school, I created online videos to assist classmates with STEM subjects like calculus, chemistry, and physics. In college, I worked as a consultant at the university's Technology Learning Center, helping students, faculty, and staff navigate various software and hardware tools. I was also a drop-in tutor for computer science courses and served as a course mentor for CMSC 150: Introduction to Computing. Finally, as part of my Secondary Education minor, I gained hands-on teaching experience by instructing two seventh-grade math classes.
My passion lies in tutoring computer science and programming. Learning to code has changed my life, opening doors I never imagined possible. As a software engineer at Google and a woman in tech, I take great pride in my journey and hope to inspire students to explore similar opportunities.
I am also passionate about tutoring mathematics at all levels, including elementary, middle school, and calculus. Throughout my academic journey, I have always found joy in helping others understand complex mathematical concepts and solve problems. Whether it's working with young students on foundational skills or guiding others through the intricacies of calculus, I am excited to make a difference in my students' understanding of math.
My teaching philosophy is centered on engagement and connection. I believe students need to find enjoyment in learning to truly understand its importance. I achieve this by using real-world applications, incorporating their interests into lessons, and fostering a supportive environment where mistakes are part of the learning process. I balance structured instruction with interactive activities to ensure students not only grasp concepts but also develop practical skills. Regular check-ins help me gauge their understanding and well-being, creating an open space for communication and collaboration.
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy Pokmon, superhero movies, trying new restaurants, and coding personal projectscurrently, I'm working on a chess game.
