Certified Tutor

I am a Licensed Master Social Worker and practicing social worker. I received my Master of Social Work and Bachelor of Social Work from Loyola University Chicago with a specialization in Clinical Work with Children and Families and sub-specialization in Migration Studies. In my practice, I've largely served Latinx and immigrant communities, combining trauma-informed case management and person-centered approach. In my last two positions, I have served unaccompanied immigrant children involved in the U.S. immigration system and have a keen understanding of the intersection of trauma and developing adolescents. My client populations have included survivors of sexual assault, torture, and trafficking and adolescents with severe mental illness (SMI). I am most passionate about representing the needs of children in systems where they otherwise might not be regarded and respected as children in highly stressful and extraordinary circumstances.

My teaching philosophy is centering empathy in all that I do, including work with clients and students. As such, I try to impart teachings and real-world tips that I would have benefitted from as a social work student or younger professional (been there!). Similarly, I heavily believe in leading with cultural humility and being transparently open to feedback on unfamiliar backgrounds and fresh perspectives. Naturally, my largest competencies are immigration social work, clinical work with adolescents, and trauma-work. I am a firm believer in meeting clients where they're at and walking side-by-side instead of leading.
