I am a graduate of the United States Naval Academy. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Ocean Engineering. During my time in the Navy, I flew helicopters and spent several years teaching students to fly.
After 9 years on active duty, I transitioned to the reserves for 11 years while starting a career in the corporate world. I worked in sales, sales training and sales management. All of these positions gave me some good perspective when it came to the different ways individuals learn.
I have spent the last three and a half years as a substitute teacher, focusing mostly on junior high math and algebra. I was also the math club sponsor at the campus where I spent the most time. More recently, I became certified to tutor students preparing to take the ACT exam.
In addition to junior high math and ACT prep, I also have a passion for U.S. History. One of my favorite professors at the Naval Academy is a subject matter expert on the Civil War and WWII. I have read just about every book he has written on those subjects. ,
Seeing students who are motivated to learn really inspires me to help them succeed and achieve their goals. I believe most students just need to know you care. A strong education is the gateway to all kinds of future opportunities. That is something I have stressed to every student I have worked with the last several years.
In my spare time, I like to read. I also create content for a sports podcast and enjoy sports photography as well.
