It is incredibly rewarding to witness a student who previously struggled academically transform into someone who enjoys learning. Students often resist working, or exhibit disruptive behavior, because they lack the understanding and skills to perform the task. I meet students where they are, teach them necessary skills, and boost their confidence. Learning is not neat and tidy, instead, it is a messy process. It is impossible to know exactly what a student is missing in his or her understanding of a concept until you begin to work with them. Assessments give you some information, but might not identify exactly why a student is unable to grasp a concept. I will work with students to set some goals, improve skills, and celebrate their growth.
