I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Connecticut in August 2022. At first, I thought I would take advantage of my degree in order to study pediatrics, alternative medicine, or teaching biology to high schoolers. After struggling in cell biology my senior year, I realized that this path was not for me anymore (had to finish what I started, though).

Since completing my undergrad years, I have taken a break from school in order to figure out my life purpose. I felt much closer to it when I did daily substitute teaching from October 2022 to December 2023; it forced me to be more open-minded by working with all kinds of students, especially BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and disabled communities.

While I did not earn as much money as I deserved, I realized that my favorite groups of students to work with are Grades 3-5 in elementary school, and high schoolers. I am also open to working with middle schoolers, although I will admit that I haven't worked with them as often, so if I end up matching with one, it would likely be a very enlightening experience for both of us.

My biggest goal in tutoring with Varsity Tutors is to encourage students to think for themselves and enjoy every step of learning, not just memorizing facts and feeling instantly satisfied by getting the answer(s). Being fresh out of college and still in Generation Z, I would also like to be open to new ways of learning, especially if it challenges ways I have ineffectively learned in the past. Thank you for your time, and all the best!
