Emily: Blaine tutor
Certified Tutor
I recently graduated from Wake Forest University, earning my BA in Psychology. I am currently obtaining my MS in Applied Behavior Analysis through Northeastern University.
I am deeply passionate about helping students because I believe in the transformative power of education. Witnessing the "aha" moments when a concept clicks or seeing students grow in confidence and ability is incredibly rewarding to me. As a tutor, I strive to empower students to reach their full potential and develop a lifelong love for learning.
I have extensive experience working with students in various capacities, including one-on-one tutoring, classroom volunteering, and mentoring. I have worked with students of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles. This experience has equipped me with the skills to tailor my approach to meet the individual needs of each student, whether they need help grasping difficult concepts, improving study skills, or preparing for exams.
I tutor a range of subjects, however, my favorite subjects to tutor are elementary math and reading. I love helping my students develop these foundational skills.
In terms of my teaching philosophy, I believe in fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and exploring new ideas. I encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent learning skills to help students become confident and self-reliant learners.
My tutoring style is interactive and student-centered. I adapt my approach to the unique needs and learning styles of each student, incorporating a variety of teaching methods, such as visual aids, hands-on activities, and real-life examples, to make learning enjoyable and effective.
Outside of academia, I enjoy reading, playing the piano, and hiking. These activities allow me to recharge and bring a fresh perspective to my tutoring sessions
