I am a Stony Brook University alumnus with a Bachelor of Science in Human Evolutionary Biology, which combined the Anthropology department with the Ecology and Evolution department into one incredibly rewarding learning experience. I learned about the most interesting topics, such as the evolution of our brains and how they develop as we age. I progressively noticed during my time at university that we all depend on our local environments for survival, as we have in the past. This epiphany influenced me to pursue my academic minor in Geospatial Science, which teaches a comprehensive approach to mapping and mapping software.

I am passionate about helping students learn Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) to help them grow in their respective fields. I teach GIS using ESRI-based software, which harbors ArcGIS and all of its extensions.

I enjoy teaching most by telling a story that illuminates the importance of the considered subject(s) so that my students can immediately apply what we are learning to their lives. For instance, I have always found maps so valuable due to my time spent snowboarding throughout my childhood. When traversing the freezing-cold mountain in such snowy conditions, the sky takes on the same color as the ground. This can especially become dangerous if you are alone and do not know your location. My fold-up trail maps of the mountain in my pocket were the most important tool I had on those snowy afternoons.

I have taught inside the classroom as a teacher, and outside of the classroom as a surf instructor. I am very excited to teach about how understanding mapping technology and cartography can help everyone!
