Having grown up with siblings that were both heavily interested and had a huge passion for medicine and pharmaccuticals, I became intenscly interested in their work and how it affected patients and clients. I made the decision to pursue this fascinating profession after observing them study both inside and outside of universities and after learning about the intricate concepts behind medicine and drugs.
Due to the science curriculum I studied in secondary school and chose to further study at college, I was able to learn more about the advantages and applications of medicine as I went along. 1 chose to spend my two years of college pursuing Chemistry, Physics and Biology because I found them to be so engaging as they allowed me to widen my knowledge and skills. For example in Unit
From my perspective, pharmacy is much more than just the manufacture and distribution of medications; it is a tool used to save lives. I have seen firsthand what a small pill can do to a person who has been destroyed by the sickness to the point of death but is still able to survive a few weeks later. This is because I have spent a lot of time watching and reading articles about drugs as well as spending time with sick relatives who have spent a lot of time in and out of hospitals.
Drugs have many positive impacts as they can help countries' economies by lowering the number of deaths that would occur and, as a result, increasing the amount of labour that is done and the amount of money that is made. Most importantly, it is used to improve human welfare since a variety of illnesses, including cancer and immune discases, pose a threat to people's lives .
With this in mind, I intend to use my pharmacy degree to investigate new medications, their effects, and latest developments.
I studied articles and watched documentaries throughout the summer break to increase my understanding of different pharmaceuticals, their classes, characteristics, functions, and adverse effects. This increased my interest in pharmacy. I even learned about medications including antimalarial, anti-neoplastic, and antibiotics as I researched everything that caught my attention. This allowed me to learn about the positive effects that various types of medications were having on patients' and and solidified my decision to pursue pharmacy as a carcer.
During the COVID pandemic, I subscribed to a medics and GP virtual relevant experience course by observe GP where I enhanced my knowledge about how GPs work closely together with Pharmacies and how pharmacies are a helping hand in making GP's run efficiently with great public service. I learnt more in depth about social prescribing, and multidisciplinary care which takes place in GP settings.
Recently I also signed up to a virtual allied health profession work experience by spring pod where I completed assignments and tasks about professions varying from nursing to occupational therapy.
I am currently pursuing my extended diploma in applied science, but I think it is important to engage in activities outside of the classroom, so I have participated in the reading matters programme during secondary school, which on Thursday afternoons helped students in school with any reading difficulties, such as dyslexia. I'd taken up piano lessons and played the sport of netball to diversify my extracurricular activities.
In order to significantly contribute to the reduction of diseases that harm the world, I would love to eventually gain a practical job experience in a medical setting and perhaps even work for a global organisation that deals with the health of a great majority.
If given the opportunity to study at a university, I hope that I will do well academically and obtain the experience I need to continue developing a well-rounded and responsible approach to life.
