In highschool I did not do well in my math classes. I didn't understand much of the material and it was extremely boring to me. I understand the perspective of struggling students more than most. It was only until I failed college algebra and had some significant reflection that I realized I loved math. Since then, I have self studied my way back on track, switched my degree path, and got a job tutoring on campus. I love teaching others and have found that teaching people the intuition behind the math they are learning is what really makes it click. I don't want my tutees to learn route memorization, I want them to understand what it is they are doing with the math. That, I believe, is the key to learning math and loving it while you learn it.
