Certified Tutor

I am currently a senior at the University of the Cumberlands, and I'm pursuing a degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in interdisciplinary studies. The past two years, I have worked at a Head Start organization as a disability aide, instructional assistant, and sub. I worked with students ages ranging from zero to five. As a disability aide I assisted students with speech and language impairments, Autism, dyslexia, and ADHD. My work as an instructional assistant allowed me to work with students on writing their name, identifying shapes and colors, and learning to count and recite the alphabet. I also worked as a tutor at my local middle school, and my responsibilities were helping students with homework, and assisting teachers with math and reading remediation. I offer tutoring in elementary math, reading, science, and social studies. My preferred subject to teach is reading. I prefer it because it's one of my favorite personal subjects to study, I've always been a bit of a book worm nothing makes me happier than a good book to read. I love teaching children reading because I know how important reading is to childhood development. I believe that reading takes people to new worlds, where they can learn and adventure through the pages of a book. I think reading is a gift and I think it's a privilege to share that with students. The reason I'm passionate about teaching is because it's always been my dream. Ever since I can remember I've always wanted to be a teacher. I used to force my little brothers to play school with me, and I bet you can guess who the teacher was! Working the past few years in the education field has made me even more sure of my career choice. I love watching students grow not just academically, but personally to. Whenever I'm teaching and I see that child have that lightbulb "I got it!" moment it makes my heart so happy. If you allow me to work with your child I would be completely honored, and I will give them my all. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a child succeed and accomplish their goals.
