There's nothing better than an "a-ha!" moment. When you've struggled and worked hard to understand and learn a new skill, it's a wonderful feeling for understanding to click into place. As a lifelong student, devoted to learning as much as I can, this is a feeling I'm familiar with and love to help others experience. I have three years of teaching experience and eight total in public education. I have also worked as a university tutor at the University of Memphis where I received my B.A. in English and Creative Writing. I fell in love with English Literature in high school and it remains one of my favorite subjects to teach and tutor. I also tutor Graphic Design, utilizing my 11 years of experience as a designer.
To me, the student is the top priority. My teaching philosophy places emphasis on creating a safe and comfortable learning environment for my students so they can feel empowered to ask their questions without fear of judgment. The best learning happens when curiosity is nurtured. As far as tutoring is concerned, I'm happy to take whatever approach works best for the student. If a visual approach is necessary, I make sure those materials are available. If audio learning is preferred, I can work to accommodate that as well. But above all, I like to tutor with a dynamic style that encourages student participation.
Outside of academia, I'm an author, reader, graphic artist, and candlemaker. I'm always researching and learning new things, languages, and space facts.
