I was born and raised in China, now living in the UK. I have been teaching mandarin for over 7 years to students of all ages and levels with different backgrounds. I have taught Curriculum Mandarin including GCSE, A-Level, HSK courses and helped students with their exam prep. I have also designed my own curriculums for young kids and adult learners with a focus on their needs. I am especially experienced in teaching kids who have a native-Chinese family background. I have plenty of strategies for teaching siblings together and keeping a good balance between their learning when there is an age gap between them.
I love languages. Languages I have learned and am still learning include English, Spanish, German, Japanese and Somali. I also have a PhD in African Language Literature. The experience I gained from learning these languages also inspired me in structuring my lessons and improving my teaching approaches.
I always teach in a warm and encouraging manner so that students can develop a sense of confidence when speaking with me in Mandarin. I break down language points at an appropriate pace for the students and always ask if they are happy with everything during the lesson. I have a lot of patience with young kids and can adjust my teaching according to their performance. I always center the student's interest and goals in my lessons and have different activities prepared. Learning Mandarin is fun with me. Apart from the joy, students can get a solid understanding of grammars, detailed explanation of characters and words as well as plenty time of listening and speaking practice in each session. I do Chinese calligraphy as a hobby, so I will be happy to help students who want to improve their character writing too.
No matter you/your kid(s) are new to Mandarin or have some background, study it at school or need it for work, I will try to provide lessons that to the maximum extent suit your need.
