I have helped hundreds of people achieve their learning goals in classrooms, summer camps, and university halls.
Although I only started to learn Russian at 14, I chose to pursue an undergraduate degree in Moscow. There, I trained for four years to become a certified English-Russian consecutive translator while also pursuing an undergraduate degree in International Finance.
To support myself financially, I spent my holidays teaching English at summer camps and private schools. Soon after, I extended my work to teaching private clients and translating large-scale projects for film studios and non-profit organisations.
At present, I live in the UK, studying Neuroscience and Psychology at the University of Oxford. And throughout the summer, I design and tutor intensive 2-week courses at Oxford with groups of 3-6 students. There, I teach business, finance, psychology and essay writing skills.
Having taught for over six years, I have developed a unique and adaptive teaching style to facilitate my students' rapid and long-lasting academic results.
Fundamentally, as both a teacher and a translator, my aim in both pursuits is to demonstrate connections between known and unknown information in a format most accessible to my clients. This idea extends the methodology I use in teaching both economics and psychology.
Per the reconstructive model of human memory, prior experience governs the fidelity of our memories. In other words, one can interpret novel information only to the degree that it can be associated with prior experience.
This view of memory presents an apparent chicken and egg dilemma how can we learn something new if we need to know about it beforehand? Therein, I maintain, lies the role of an educator to translate the intellectual wealth of our ancestors into each student's prior knowledge. In other words, the educator must translate unfamiliar, valuable information into each student's 'cognitive language'.
Largely (if not entirely), I attribute the incredible opportunities I have been afforded in life to my education. The process of education teaches discipline, fosters curiosity, and extends one's professional opportunities immeasurably. I hope to extend this incredible gift to my students.
