Certified Tutor

My name is Nicole, and I look forward to supporting you along your learning journey! I have degrees in biology, English, and French from High Point University. I actively substitute teach at a local charter school in core subjects like math, science, social studies, language arts, and writing. It's safe to say I enjoy helping others like you! I have always loved school and was usually involved in some form of tutoring others, from fifth grade into college. At HPU, I worked as the editor in chief of the Campus Chronicle newspaper, student-led HI-PO Magazine, and Apogee literary magazine. I am currently an associate editor for Threadsuns Press. During my time in college, I mentored and trained others in programs like Adobe InDesign and various forms of writing (news, professional, evergreen, feature, etc.) and styles (AP, MLA, Chicago, etc.). I have lots of experience discussing, presenting, and writing about literature with others of all ages. I have a passion for language learning and have tutored in the French language and French literature. I have helped homeschool children and guided adult students through biological health science courses, such as anatomy and physiology, microbiology, parasitology, pathology, and more. I shadowed physicians at a private hospital in Greece for a summer, owned and operated a rehabilitative therapy business, managed a bookshop, and shared my love for and knowledge about every bit of it with other people through educational tutoring. I have a broad range of subjects throughout my tutoring history. I am a firm believer in combining multiple learning techniques into the same lesson, including visuals, repetition, color coding, and, when/if possible, kinesthetics.

You should know I deeply value education and tutoring's ability to transform the lives of others and make them think, wonder, and question. I am thrilled to be a part of Varsity Tutors' mission to maximize your educational opportunities and learn experientially alongside you in an awesome virtual space. I believe in your ability to succeed and would love to be a part of your journey too!

Hobbies

Reading is my favorite pastime. It is difficult to pinpoint my favorite genre because I genuinely enjoy many different ones, including fiction, nonfiction, classic, poetry, plays, and children’s and young adult literature! For me to choose something off my shelves, I find it depends on the season, mood, and maybe even the weather. Most often, you can find me spending time with my dogs. Unfortunately, I am allergic to cats; otherwise, I would probably have one. Oh, and I love traveling! I go to Sweden a couple of times each year. I also enjoy browsing antique and thrift shops, especially in new places. I find myself drawn to the mountains more than the beach, where I can be surrounded by peaceful nature.
