My background as an early childhood, elementary, and bilingual educator have provided me with extensive academic knowledge and experience. I received my Bachelor's degree from Hofstra University in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, as well as a degree in Spanish. I am also a graduate from Hunter College, where I received my Masters in Early Childhood & Bilingual Education. I have been privileged to work in different settings alongside students, families, and teachers from diverse backgrounds. These experiences have taught me how important our assets are as resources that must be valued and sustained, especially in fostering a positive sense of self. Teaching and learning in an academically focused environment have taught me a great deal, particularly that teaching and learning are not linear, but dynamic. A meaningful education strengthens the diverse assets students and teachers come into the classroom with by connecting them to their local culture and environment. While I am most passionate about bilingual education and using language as an essential tool for understanding, expression, and creative thinking, I truly enjoy tutoring ELA and Math. These teaching experiences have instilled a constant drive for my own development, as I see the immediate results it has on student achievement.
My dream, to instill a deep knowledge that sustains both the individual and the community in relation to our natural world is not only fundamental to my cultural roots, but at the core of living in a world without borders. Learning is not an isolated practice which occurs solely in the mind, but a connection with our bodies and spirits. My goal is to prepare students to be critical thinkers that communicate purposefully and take on the responsibility of reforming their communities and the world. In my spare time, I like to climb, hike, travel, create, and practice my string instruments like the charango and ukulele. I also love to spend time with my family and friends in community.
