After spending time as a direct sales executive, a firefighter/EMT and a registered nurse, I finally discovered and settled into my true passion and raison d'treteaching! I have taught and tutored for more than 20 years, and count myself luckier than most every time I get to share in students' joy, pride and sense of accomplishment whenever they master a challenging concept or gain new skills. My experience includes working with children as young as 3 years, as old as 60-something, and all ages in between. I have experiencing working with children on the autism spectrum, and those with other special needs diagnoses such as ADHD, dyslexia and dysgraphia. My strongest and favorite subject to teach is music, specifically violin and viola. I have also taught reading, writing, ESL, CPR/ALS, and worked with nursing students at the bedside in their Critical Care, Emergency, and Pediatric clinical rotations.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from East Texas State University (now a member of the Texas A&M system), and have lived most of my life in Texas. I spent 6 years in Denver, CO, and really do miss the mountains sometimes.
Students will find in me a guide who can quickly assess their personal learning styles, strengths and challenges, and formulate a teaching plan to help them reach their goals effectively and efficiently. With my teaching style, I will rarely, if ever, give students an answer, but rather guide them in using their own reasoning, researching and questioning skills to arrive at the answers themselves. I believe strongly that when we understand the "why" behind particular ways of doing things, remembering and executing well those theories and tasks becomes so much easier. That said, I will also encourage students to think outside the box or look at something from alternative perspectives when that fits a particular situation.

When not teaching or practicing for performances, I enjoy taking Ruby, my Jack Russell Terrier-Chihuahua mix, to the dog park. She has so many friends! I also listen to or watch a pretty eclectic mix of podcasts. Finally, I’m trying to learn French, German and Italian through an online app—it’s pretty slow going so far, but maybe someday I’ll be able to greet you with “Bonjour étudiants. Wie gent es Ihnen haute? Iniziamo!”
