I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I'm a writer living in Brooklyn, NY. I work as a freelancer producing essays, profiles about people, reports, and performing copyediting and quality control. I also write fiction and am currently revising a novel. In 2021, I received my MFA in Creative Writing from Hollins University, a small liberal arts school in Roanoke, VA. During grad school, I designed and taught two semesters of a college course on creative writing. For undergrad, I attended Sarah Lawrence College, where I studied writing, literature, and social sciences. Since graduating in 2013, I've accrued over a decade of professional work experience in a variety of sectors, from publishing, to finance, to education. I've worked at elementary and middle schools and in higher education institutions, including Columbia University where I was the Executive Assistant to two presidential advisors, and the University of Houston, where I freelance for the alumni department. I'm a volunteer middle-school reading mentor through the nonprofit organization Read Ahead where every week I aim to make reading an exciting adventure for my mentee. I also recently completed a year-long internship at a pediatric speech therapy clinic where I gained enriching insight into language and communication development. I'm passionate about working with students of all ages and thrive off of tailoring the tutoring experience towards the individual. Everyone's needs and learning styles are different, and so I operate off of building trust inside the tutor-student relationship, identifying goals, and implementing a plan that will get us seeing tangible results from strengthened understanding and confidence. Whether working on Standardized Test prep, Critical Reading and Writing development, English proficiency, or unique writing and language projects, my goal is always for my students to have a transformative journey towards feeling proud of their work.
