I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Andrew

Certified Tutor

I am a McGill University student working towards a Bachelor of Arts in Honours Economics with a minor in Mathematics. I tutor a wide range of topics, but I am currently most passionate about teaching Pre-Algebra and SAT Math. I've previously tutored at Mathnasium, which has provided me with a wealth of experience tutoring students.

I attune my teaching style based on the needs of the student. First I have them take diagnostic tests to demonstrate their relative skill, and through a bit of trial and error I can understand which learning styles they are most comfortable with. Additionally, my teaching will almost involve some combination of the Socratic questioning method and rubber duck explaining; I ask them questions so they can better understand their assumptions for solving problems, and they explain what they know and don't know in order to pinpoint the exact point in which they don't understand something.
