Certified Tutor

I've always been passionate about sharing knowledge with students. I love learning new things, and I really enjoy helping students do the same. The best part about helping students is that I learn new ideas from them as well!
Being a teacher has been my goal since I was a kid. All through high school and college, I tutored students, mostly math topics. I also did some student teaching while earning my degree. Since then, I have had the chance to teach college courses along with tutoring students online. Right now I help with some online math courses targeted at students from other countries. It's been interesting seeing how other cultures approach mathematics.
I earned a math degree from Truman State University. After that, I went to graduate school at the University of Missouri in Columbia.
I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics, and a masters degree in statistics
I tutor all levels of algebra, along My favorite subject to tutor is statistics. Every day we see statistics in the real world, and I like that I get to teach students how to interpret and analyze that information from a mathematical perspective.
I recognize that some people really struggle with mathematics. Sometimes math can seem like learning a new language. As a tutor and instructor, my goal is to give students the tools needed to connect and build on ideas, rather than just memorizing formulas. I like to keep students involved by asking questions. I also want my students to ask me questions. Together we work together to put the ideas in the simplest terms.
I enjoy activities that involve problem solving, like jigsaw puzzles. I also like baking treats, and eating them! Plus I'm a big fan of board games and trivia nights with friends.
